§ 8-21. Established.

  • (a)

    There is hereby established enhanced 911 emergency telephone service within the corporate limits of the city, which provides the user of the public telephone system therein the ability to reach local emergency service agencies on a twenty-four-hour basis by dialing the digits 911. Such service shall be capable, at a minimum, of transmitting requests for law enforcement, fire fighting, and emergency medical and ambulance services to a public safety agency or other provider that provides the requested service at the place where the call originates, and shall provide for any and all other emergency services as may be deemed necessary and appropriate by the city's public safety communications board.

    (b)

    All requests for emergency medical ambulance services received by the city's public safety communications personnel through the public 9-1-1 emergency phone system, shall be transmitted to the city's authorized contract provider of such services, who shall have exclusive rights and access to same in accordance with, and during the term of the contract.
