§ 27-11. Title and purpose.

  • This article shall henceforth be known as the "Wrecker Service Ordinance". The purpose of this article is to provide the city and the city police department personnel with a safe, efficient and equitable system for the removal of damaged, disabled, abandoned, or illegally parked motor vehicles from city streets. All applications, fees, lists, complaints, or other written information concerning the administration of this article shall be maintained and monitored by the city police department, under the direction and supervision of the city manager. All requests by police personnel for wrecker and/or storage facility services within the city shall be administered through a police department radio dispatcher as directed herein. All wrecker services and vehicle storage facilities within the city that meet the minimum qualifications and requirements prescribed hereinbelow shall be eligible to provide municipal wrecker, repair, and/or vehicle storage services.
